Getting Grocceries

Moo makes getting groceries fun! Always being the IAM Student Representative, she assists in choosing the best food, snacks and any other grocery goodies that the athletes would be sure to enjoy! Just wish we could get Tim Tams for the Kiwis!

Aspen Open

The Aspen Open is now in its fifth year, the Aspen/Snowmass Open is a must-attend event. The event will featured a prize purse of $50,000. Held at Buttermilk, this event allows skiers and snowboarders, men and women, the opportunity to compete on the Winter X Games 14 slopestyle course and 22-foot superpipe before they open to the public.

The athletes of IAM that competed had a great experience there. They all learned something new and were stoked on riding the X Games course. Indigo Monk had a great finish in pipe making the finals! This was a great achievement for her since she excels in slopestyle and just did pipe for fun. Way to go, Indigo!

IAM NIGHT-Tye Dying!

Indigo's hands after a night of tye dying shoes, socks, sweatshirts and t-shirts! At least this will wash off at some point, unlike the concrete they excitedly tye dyed.
A couple of them made matching tye dyed shoes, they turned out awesome!!!

Tim's shirt was one that turned out the best!
Getting the whites all banded up for tye dying!

Meet Moo

Madeline, but is known as "Moo" by all. She arrived in January from Bend, Oregon for our second semester ready to rip up the mountain. She enjoys both competitive skiing as well as days on the mountain filming. Her outgoing attitude and love for all makes her loved by all. She's a great addition to IAM and we are happy to have her apart of the program!

Meet the Kiwis

Tim and Benji at the Denver Nuggets game!
Benji Sutherland comes from the Town of Wanaka, New Zealand. He's here to work on his slopestyle game as well as compete in some American competitions. One of the biggest being the National Championships!
Tim Herbert arrived with Benji in January from Wanaka as well. He's a friend to all, but a threat on the mountain as he continues to improve on jumps and in the halfpipe. He aims to compete in the National Championships as well.
Scott Brodie arrived a week later from the same town as Benji and Tim, Wanaka, NZ! A skate boarder at heart he enjoys skating it up at Woodward at Copper, but takes his skate style to the mountain off of jumps rails and any other feature he can get his board on. He too hopes to compete in the 2010 National Championships!

Downstairs at Eric's

Entrance to Eric's.....
Next weeks IAM night was going to Downstairs at Eric's in Breckenridge. Eric's is Breck’s favorite family sports bar. It has a huge menu to satisfy every appetite...Pizza, Burgers, Salads, Rotisserie Chicken, and more. Along with 21 TV’s, 2 big screen TV’s, and Video arcade; it is always a place that guarantees a ton of fun! In fact we were late to dinner because everyone was enthralled playing their arcade game of choice, but once we got to dinner we enjoyed good food and the sports games on the big screens.

On January 25, 2010 we had an awesome IAM night cheering on the Denver Nuggets. Our cheering obviously helped, for the Nuggets won by more than 15pts! It was also a great experience for our foreign athletes to attend a sport event they've never been to before. We got our fill of hot dogs and laughs to leave us stoked that we made the trip down to Denver.

Meet the Counselors

Mackenzie Matters

Originally from Eagan, MN, Mackenzie moved out to Colorado at the age of 20 with the determination to change the world of snow-boarding as well as to make her name known. To-day she competes at the professional level in such events as US Grand Prixs, Vans Cup, New Zealand Open and US Open Championships. Along with World Cup events in the halfpipe discipline. In ad-dition to this she is working towards her AA at the Colorado Mountain College and hopes to complete her MBA at CSU. Since 2007 she has spent her summers coaching and counseling children at Windells Snowboard Camp. Before this she ran the Summer Science Institute bringing groups of High School students out on 14 day camping trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Her passions include snow-boarding, business, serving others, driving, athletics and helping others to achieve their dreams. She knows by passing on the knowledge she’s acquired from her own experiences she will be able to help aspiring ath-letes achieve their goals while keeping them heading down a positive educational path.

Daniel Lee Wilkins (Danny)

pastedGraphic.pdf

Danny is from Payson, Utah and have lived in 4 other states and one other country (besides the US) namely Virginia, Missouri, Alaska, Colorado, and Argentina. He grew up in a wonderful family with a mother and father who he felt loved him and taught him very well. Danny is the oldest of 5 children (the youngest being 3 years) and has always loved spending time watching over and having fun with his younger siblings.

Growing up he has received a few awards, two of which are namely: The Eagle Scout award, and the Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Daniel loves working with people! Yes he’d say that is one of his strengths. He has been part of the American work force ever since he was 13 and has worked in sales for more than 8 years, 2 years of which have been dedicated to rigorous door-to-door sales and installing positions.

When Danny was 19 he left his home and country to serve a mission for his church in Cordoba, Argentina. For two years he served as a minister and councilor for many, many types of domestic and public situations, all with no financial benefits on his behalf. In fact it was a very expensive venture for both his family and Danny.

Some of Daniel’s passions and interests include: writing, cooking, study of languages (fluent in Spanish), real estate investing, and manual labor.

Eric Cobb

Originally from Montclair, California, Eric came to Colorado at the age of twelve with his parents. He has only been snowboarding for four years, because other hobbies were always an interest to him. Eric spent a lot of time with his father and two brothers in garages building cars as a child, and into his adult life. He is also very into entertainment. Music has always been a passion of his. Eric has performed on stage several times playing guitar and singing.

He received a degree in Broadcasting from the Ohio School of Broadcasting, and works as an on-air personality in Breckenridge. Though he is not a competitive snowboarder, he competed in BMX as a child, and won a few races. He has also had a lot of experience with kids. He regularly cares for his teenage sister, and has a four year old niece that he loves to spend time with.

His passions and skills are, building Hot Rods, fixing mechanical things, snowboarding, making others laugh, helping those in need, playing with his niece, and reading the news. Through his trials in life he has been able to inspire, and teach others to stay focused, driven, and in the right direction.
